Ascent Innovation District Master Plan – Rapid City, SD

Master planning for Rapid City Economic Development Foundation for a 4.5-acre site in downtown Rapid City.   This included parking lots, utilities, stormwater, and site amenities.  Provided site selection and analysis, jurisdictional alignment, and collaboration with site planning efforts.

 

University Center Master Plan – Rapid City, SD

Master planning utilities, grading and drainage for proposed expansions on the campus.  

 

Magic City Gate Master Plan – Minot AFB, ND

Master plan document which included narrative, concept building and site plans, design charrette meeting minutes and opinion of probable cost for a complex gate and access control facility. 

 

Gillette College Campus Master Plan – Gillette, WY

Overall campus master planning and contract documentation for technical education expansion facility.

 

Campbell County Hospital North Landscape – Gillette, WY

Site and landscape development for hospital campus, contract administration. Project Manager (2017) Client:  Campbell County Hospital.

South Dakota School of Mines President’s Residence Site Review & Assessment – Rapid City, SD

Performed a site analysis of a potential site for a new president’s residence.  The site was extremely steep, and a site grading concept was developed that required several walls but provided acceptable road grades that were thought to be difficult to obtain.

Cemeteries:

New State Veterans Cemetery - Ardmore, OK

Provided Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture for the Phase 1 design and construction documents of a 12-acre site. Design included roadways, columbaria, flag assembly area, committal shelter area, administration building, maintenance building, ornamental fencing, avenue of flags,utilities, plantings, storm water drainage, street and wayfinding signage, and burial layouts were included in this project. TerraSite Design led the project team. TerraSite Design also is currently developing a master plan for possible future expansion of this cemetery.

5000 niche expansion and facilities for Columbarium A. Client: National Cemetery Administration.

 

Lakota Freedom Tribal Cemetery – Kyle, SD

Master planning for overall 100-year perpetuity and phase 1 construction documents, cultural alignment, contract administration. Client; State Tribal Division of National Cemetery Administration, Oglala Sioux Tribe.

 

National Burial Ground – Rhinelander, WI

5-acre master plan and phase 1 construction documents and administration. Client: National Cemetery Administration.

 

Golden Gate National Cemetery – San Bruno, CA

Provided civil engineering for pavement assessment, rehabilitation recommendations, and construction documents for over two miles of roadways.  This included the access roads, sub-grade, storm water drainage, street and wayfinding signage.  The rehabilitation methods included full-depth reclamation (FDR), total reconstruction, mill and overlay, and slurry seal.

Leavenworth National Cemetery Road Rehabilitation – Leavenworth, KS

A roadway conditions assessment report was completed to assist the National Cemetery Administration with how to best utilize federal funding for the maintenance and repair of their roadways.  Construction documents and construction administration were completed for the design renovations recommended in the assessment report.

Main Street Square – Rapid City, SD

The Community Square is a defining element for the City’s vibrant downtown.  Our Civil Engineer Department provided storm water management, sanitary sewer, site development, pedestrian access, safety and security, ADA compliance, etc.

 

Main Street Square Development Block – Rapid City, SD

Multiple project delivery efforts for this downtown revitalization (planner for main street square, project manager for pedestrian alleyway, project manager for Main Street streetscape). Multiple Clients.

 

Sturgis Downtown Framework – Sturgis, SD

Comprehensive planning effort with community stakeholders including overlay district, revitalization efforts, and design of various pilot projects (including Rally Point Plaza). Clients:  Sturgis Community and Economic Development, City of Sturgis, Harley Davidson.

Water Related Projects:

Cheyenne VA Water Improvements – Cheyenne WY

Performed an investigative study including extensive hydraulic modeling utilizing WaterCad to replace the aging water distribution system.  This included determination of pipe sizes based on VA criteria, construction methodologies, detailed phasing to maintain water service and traffic flow, and coordination with many regulatory agencies.

Renovate Security Forces Training Facility – Minot AFB, ND

Provided civil engineering design and construction of the renovation of the 61,800 SF facility which serves as the training center for 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing security force personnel.  Civil Engineering supplied the storm drainage and grading.

Windslow Dr. Drainage and Nebraska St. Sanitary Sewer Improvement – Rapid City, SD

 

Transportation:

Gillette Avenue Streetscape – Gillette, WY

Landscape architecture and streetscape / pedestrian design in support of transportation and community renovation (in collaboration with HDR, Inc). Client: City of Gillette.

Bomber Boulevard – Minot AFB, ND

Provided project management and civil engineering design for the repair of Bomber Boulevard.  It is one of two principal roads on the base and is experiencing pavement failure.  Repair included pavements, sub-grade, drainage, electrical lighting, signage, and other features. 

 

Granite Buick/GMC and Nissan Dealerships – Rapid City, SD

Provided civil engineering for the site design of the new 12.7-acre dealership.  Scope of work included mass site grading and installation of parking lots and roadways, including 600+ standard and ADA parking spaces, curb and gutter, asphalt and concrete pavement, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, multiple porous landscape detention features, ADA accessible pedestrian walks and approaches, site lighting and security video surveillance

 

Liberty Boulevard – Box Elder, SD

Mr. Matt was Lead Design Engineer for this ACEC Design Excellence Award Winning Project.  The 5-lane roadway provides new access to Ellsworth Air Force Base and the City of Box Elder from Interstate I-90.  Design responsibilities included curb and gutter, storm sewer, signing, striping, and erosion control. Mr. Matt was the lead in the Civil Design of all phases of this successful project the design of which was coordinated with the Air Force.

 

Ellsworth Street Design – Ellsworth AFB, SD

The new Ellsworth Street was designed to expand and replace an existing mile long roadway with a four-lane concrete roadway system, including curb, gutter, re-grading, storm sewer, and utilities.  The replacement increased traffic flow and improved drainage capacity for the base.  Mr. Matt led in the Civil Design of all phases of this successful project the design of which was coordinated with the Air Force.

 

Pride Parking Lot – Minot AFB, ND

Provided civil engineering QA/QC for repair of the parking lot at the Pride Building.  The repair included the parking lot, access road and pedestrian pavements, sub-grade, storm water drainage, fire hydrant system, electrical lighting, signage and other incidental features to meet parking needs and force protection requirements. 

 

Repair Security Forces Operations Building Parking Lot, East Side – Minot AFB, ND

Provided civil engineering QA/QC for the repair of the parking at the Security Forces Operations Building.  Scope of work included repair and new layout for the parking lot, access road and pedestrian pavements, sub-grade, storm water drainage, electrical lighting, signage and other features.

 

Sturgis Main Street Reconstruction – Sturgis, SD

Provided Civil Engineering QA/QC for upgrades to Main Street that would make the street beautiful, functional, and safe.  Engineering principles for stormwater modeling, utility sizing, and paving designed were aligned with Municipal and SD DOT requirements.

 

MET Transit Downtown Transit Center – Billings, MT

Urban and transportation planning and facilities development for FTA funded project received LEED Platinum Certification.  Client: City of Billings.

Westhills Village Commons Site/Apartment Addition Site & Parking Lot – Rapid City, SD

 

Parks & Recreation:

Big Rock Park Overlook – Custer, SD

Public overlook structure and access routing, contract administration. Client, City of Custer.

 

Sheridan Lake Fishing Access – Custer, SD

Designed and oversaw construction administration of an ADA accessible/walking path from the parking area to the docks, while maintaining a sloped area for ice fishing access for the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks.  Included coordination for the connection of the portable docks.  This project included drainage and grading improvements to prevent erosion of the access including revetment.  Provided detailed erosion control plan including silt curtain due to close proximity to this body of water.  The project also included landscape beautification.

Health:

Spinal Cord Injury Center Addition – Minneapolis VAMC, MN

Provided bridging documents for a design-build project for the site design of a new Spinal Cord Injury Center addition to the existing VAMC in Minneapolis.   The site design included site grading, utility (water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, electric, gas and telephone) relocation and storm water discharge compliance.  The project also included LEED certified site design including Storm Water Quality and Quantity Reduction, Heat Island Effect and Site Disturbance credits.

Sheridan VAMC Extend Overlay Parking Lots – Sheridan, WY

Designed two new parking lots and expansions to three other parking lots to add 148 standard parking spaces and 16 ADA parking spaces which included analysis of sites for ADA parking, vehicle movements, parking orientation, stormwater impacts and economic value. 

 

Sheridan VAMC Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Facility – Sheridan, WY

Provided civil engineering design for a new 26,000 square foot Mental Health Rehabilitation Center with a 40-bed inpatient program. Civil engineering design included site development including connections to utilities, storm sewer, roads, parking, erosion control, etc.

Sheridan VAMC Main Water Supply Design Modifications – Sheridan, WY

Provided civil engineering design for the modification of the current raw water replacement.  Designed a system at the entrance infrastructure in the Water Filtration Plant and the termination infrastructure at Building 59 where the potable waterline can be switched via a cross connection apparatus to the raw waterline as needed for maintenance.

Ft. Meade VAMC Surgical Tower Addition – Sturgis, SD

Provided civil engineering for a new 20,000 square foot surgery department.  A two-story addition will append the existing medical center complex providing enhanced surgical space. The project will also create the opportunity to renovate the existing hospital to accommodate numerous inpatient services.

Military Related Projects:

Military Working Dogs (MWD) Kennel – Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO

Provided site design and construction documents for a 5100 sf MWD Kennel that supports the Security Forces Squadron that meets their current standards. The existing MWD Kennel facility fails to meet current Life, Health and Safety standards for the valuable military working dogs.  

 

Military Working Dogs (MWD) Kennel – FE Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne WY

Provided Site design and construction documents for an MWD Kennel that supports the Security Forces Squadron that meets their current standards. The existing MWD Kennel facility fails to meet current Life, Health and Safety standards for the valuable military working dogs.  

 

Fightertown Hangar – Rapid City, SD

This 25,000-sf design build project was custom designed as a hanger with high end offices and a maintenance shop to support two jet aircrafts (one military) and a helicopter. Provide site design services throughout all phases of the project in association with the design build contractor, and he coordinated all utilities and planning with the airport authority.

Commercial Site Design:

Western Dakota Tech, Mickelson Expansion – Rapid City, SD

Led design team in providing overall campus expansion plans for multi-year multi-phase growth as well as construction documentation for initial phase.  Project landscape architect for phase 1 efforts; including bidding and construction administration.

 

Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Expansion – Rapid City, SD

The new facility supplemented the existing arena by providing additional floor space to meet the ever-increasing space needs of large events that utilize multiple areas simultaneously. In addition, it serves as a stand-alone arena for events that are not large enough to efficiently utilize the larger Don Barnett Arena. Civil site design included water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, site grading, loading dock and site access.

 

Black Hills Business Development Center at SDSMT – Rapid City, SD

Provided Site Design including utilities, parking, grading and wall design for a 40,000-sf business. The design effort had to address serious issues concerning existing expansive soils, the construction of the facility adjacent to an existing detention pond, and relocation of exiting utilities. The design-build team provided the project at a cost of $52.00 per sf.
